DHS Director Maura Corrigan will be the keynote speaker and new officers will be elected at the Mid-Michigan Chapter of Women Lawyers annual meeting on May 17th. Corrigan will speak about women lawyers and the challenges facing Michigan. The event is open to members and non-members.

Three current officers will be stepping down at the May meeting, though we look forward to their continued support of the Mid-Michigan Chapter. The chapter thanks Kris Arnett, Nicki Proulx and Val Lafferty.

Kris Arnett began at the state level as the regional representative, and was later invited onto the state board as secretary. After a couple of years on the state board, she became President in 2007.

Through her involvement in WLAM she has been an active member and board member at both the state and regional levels since 2003. During her presidency she assisted in the creation of student chapters of WLAM at local law schools. After her presidency Kris rejoined her regional board as the regional representative, treasurer and with help of fellow board members, began publishing our region's first newsletter in December 2010. Kris attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate studies. She went on to receive her JD from West Virginia University, College of Law and returned to Michigan in 2002 to begin her legal career. Kris has greatly enjoyed working with other WLAM members and will enjoy continuing her membership and participating in the many activities offered by WLAM. Kris provides legal services in the areas of family law, estate planning, trust and estate administration and probate litigation.

Nicki Proulx has been a member of WLAM for eight years, has served on the Board for the Mid-Michigan Region for the entire eight years (currently serving as Secretary), and has also served on the State Board as the Mid-Michigan Region Representative. She also currently serves on the Board for Downtown Lansing, Inc.

Val Lafferty enjoyed serving as President of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of WLAM this past year and being active with the chapter over the past four years.
