On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the members of the Ingham County Bar Association will come together for their annual dinner and to honor and recognize its outstanding members. The event will be held at the Lexington Lansing Hotel in Lansing, MI.
The following are the award recipients for 2013:
Webb A. Smith is awarded the Thomas E. Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award.
This award is given to lawyers who have made a significant and longstanding contribution to the advancement or improvement of the justice system and the betterment of the legal profession in the State of Michigan and have also attained professional excellence
Smith, Foster, Swift, has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1994, he is a Master of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School American Inns of Court. He received the Leo Farhat Outstanding Attorney Award in 1997 and was named a “Top Commercial Litigator” in 2006. A native of Lansing, Michigan, Webb completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School.
David E. S. Marvin recipient of the Leo A. Farhat Outstanding Attorney Award
The Leo A. Farhat Outstanding Attorney Award is award to a member of the Ingham County Bar Association who has distinguished himself or herself by manifesting exemplary character, integrity, judgment and legal scholarship while adhering to and advancing the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession.
Marvin is a shareholder of Fraser Trebilcock Davis & Dunlap, P.C. where he chairs the firm’s Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Law Department. A recipient of numerous professional and civic honors, Mr. Marvin has served on a variety of boards of directors for private entities, professional associations and community service groups. He has also served as the chairman of a prestigious organization of law firms from around the world.
Karl L. Gotting recipient, Theodore W. Swift Civility Award
The Theodore W. Swift Civility Award shall be presented to a member of the Ingham County Bar Association who has distinguished himself or herself by manifesting civility in his or her relations with the Bench, Bar, clients, and the public, while adhering to and advancing the highest principals and traditions of the legal profession.
Gotting, Loomis Law Firm, served in the U.S. Navy JAG from 1963 to 1966. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and is currently listed in the 2014 Edition of Best Lawyers of America. Gotting is a past president of the Lansing YMCA and former board member. He is the recipient of the 2000 YMCA C. Colton Carr Volunteer of the Year award and the 2004 Camille Abood Distinguished Volunteer Award of the Ingham County Bar Association. Mr. Gotting is also a recipient of the 2011 Terrence R. Duvernay award recognized as a pinnacle for any career in the Affordable Housing industry.
Jeffrey C. Hicks, winner of the Camille S. Abood Distinguished Volunteer Award
The Camille S. Abood Distinguished Volunteer Award is presented to a member of the Ingham County Bar Association who has distinguished himself or herself by making voluntary contributions of time and talent for the benefit of others. Consideration will be given to any volunteer service, whether or not it happens to involve the Lansing area community.
Hicks, former Managing Partner of Hicks & Mullett, PLLC, recently joined Dart Container Corporation as Assistant General Counsel for Corporate Real Estate. Hicks is a 1993 graduate of Michigan State University and a 1997 graduate of Wayne State University Law School. He has practiced extensively in the areas of real estate and business law for fifteen years.
His community service includes serving as General Counsel, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce; Chairman, Delta Government Relations Committee, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Former Chair Leadership Committee, Michigan State University Alumni Association - International Board, Regional Club Best Practices Committee Chair

The Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan is awarded the Liberty Bell Award for its outstanding service by a non-lawyer organization. It is a non profit 501(c)3 organization which helps parties resolve conflict , make decisions about difficult situations and develop plans of action which are mutually acceptable to all parties. The Liberty Bell Award is awarded to the organization for encouraging a greater respect for the law and the courts, stimulating a deeper sense of individual responsibility so that citizens recognize their duties as well as their rights,
and for fostering a better understanding and appreciation of the rule of law.
Ingham County Bar Association and Legal Services of South Central Michigan awards the Pro Bono Award annually to a lawyer who has made significant contributions through LSSCM pro bono program. This year’s award winner is Amy H. Bailey. Smith and Bailey, Family Law Attorney.
