Michigan State University College of Law Dean Joan W. Howarth is one of three law school deans to speak at the WLAM Foundation Reception for Education and Community Leadership to be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 25 at the Great Lakes Culinary Center, 24101 West Nine Mile Road in Southfield.
Howarth will be joined by Dean Jocelyn Benson of Wayne State University Law School; and Dean Phyllis L. Crocker, University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. The trio will participate in a “TEDw” Talk – “Toasting Education of Dynamic Women.”
The Reception will also introduce the 10 2015 Outstanding Women Law Students chosen to receive a total of $30,000 in scholarships supporting their law school education. Awardees were selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership on women’s issues, through a competitive process.
This year marks the WLAM Foundation’s 19th year of making awards to deserving women law students. In that time, 225 awardees have received a total of $530,000 in financial support. The Foundation’s many corporate, law firm and individual donors have given generously to support the WLAMF’s educational mission, and many will also attend the March 25 event.
The Reception can also give local attorneys the opportunity to network with other lawyers and donors.
A suggested donation is $30 per attendee. Register by March 20 by calling Barb at 248-740-7003 or charge online at www.wlamfoundation.org.
The WLAM Foundation’s website also offers opportunities to support the scholarship fund as a member of the Dean’s List, supporters at levels above $150. Virtually all donations go directly to scholarships, and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
