Mieke V. Weissert is the senior associate at Loomis, Ewert, Parsley, Davis & Gotting, P.C. in Lansing, where her focus is on family law, estate planning and probate litigation.
Weissert was born in Columbia, Md., and says she loved growing up in a community where everyone was treated the same no matter one’s gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, financial status or challenges in life. Her family moved to Pittsburgh just before she started high school, and she often visits family who still live there.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and her juris doctorate from The University of Akron School of Law.
She is married to Matt Botsford, and has a son, Matthew, and stepchildren, Grace and Aiden. The Lansing residents love to take family trips together and spend lots of weekends and weeknights traveling to baseball games, wrestling meets and cheerleading events.
Weissert is a member of the Zonta Club of East Lansing Area (ZCELA) and The Greater Lansing Estate Planning Council (GLEPC).

What is your most treasured material possession? My children’s artwork which is proudly displayed in my office and on our refrigerator at home. I love to admire how their artistic talents have developed over the years.
What advice do you have for someone considering law school? Have a solid idea of what you want to do with your degree and seek the advice of many professionals with law degrees.
Favorite websites: ICLE for work and 6pm.com for shopping.
Favorite app: Pandora.
Favorite local hangouts: The Wharton Center for dance performances. I need to get my tickets soon for the Twyla Tharp Dance in November.
Favorite music: I have a very eclectic collection of music on my iTunes, but Foo Fighters is my favorite band.
What is your happiest childhood memory? I was very much a tomboy and have lots of great memories playing down by the local stream and making forts with all the neighborhood kids in Columbia, Md.
What would surprise people about your job? How rewarding it is to help people solve their legal issues involving families, especially in mediation. When this is achieved, the parties are able to put their differences aside (for the most part) and come to a resolution that works for both of them in not only divorce, but also probate cases.
Why did you become a lawyer? I have always wanted to be a lawyer. The more I researched and learned about the profession, the more bound and determined I was to become a lawyer.
What do you wish someone would invent? The ability to be in two places at once.
What has been your favorite year so far? They keep getting better and better, so it would be this year.
How do you define success? Achieving both my short term and long term goals I continuously set for myself.
What is your proudest moment as a lawyer? Receiving updates from clients on their families. I always feel as if I have made a difference in their lives when I hear positive updates with children, or how co-parenting truly does become easier as time goes on.
Who is on your guest list for the ideal dinner party? My ideal dinner party includes Thanksgiving dinner and my family.
What would you say to your 16-year-old self? Keep up the hard work!
What has been your favorite year so far? They keep getting better and better, so it would be this year.
If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would that be? If I could go back to 1984, it would be with Mary Lou Retton at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. I still get chills when I watch that 10.00 Full Twisting Tsukahara vault that won her the gold medal in the all-around.
What’s the most awe-inspiring place you’ve ever been? Every beach I have been to at sunrise.
If you could have one super power, what would it be? Flying.
What do you do to relax? I practice yoga regularly, spend time with my family and I love to laugh.
What is one thing you would like to learn to do? Play the piano.
What is something most people don't know about you? I was a Division 1 scholarship gymnast for Central Michigan University from 1991-1994.
What is the best advice you ever received? It was from my father. No matter what I do in life, always give my best efforts.
What do you do to relax? I practice yoga regularly, spend time with my family and I love to laugh.
What do you drive? A 2015 Ford Explorer Sport.
What would you drive if money were no object? I am not too picky with vehicles. I am happy as long as it fits my family and is not a mini-van.
Favorite place to spend money: Dick’s Sporting Goods and Designer Shoe Warehouse.
