Quinn named MSU vice president for legal affairs and general counsel

Michigan State University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. named Brian Quinn vice president for legal affairs and general counsel for the university. Quinn has been acting in the role since Feb. 1, 2019.

“Since I became president I have been impressed by Brian’s knowledge and thoughtfulness in providing legal guidance as well as his calm demeanor,” Stanley said. “Brian breaks down complicated legal situations with ease and consistently operates in the best interest of our community. He is the right person for this role and the university.”

As vice president for legal affairs and general counsel, Quinn is responsible for all matters with legal significance for MSU including contract review, advice regarding state and federal laws, and educational programs. The Office of the General Counsel also represents the university in litigation and supervises all outside legal services.

“I appreciate President Stanley’s confidence in me and am pleased to continue leading the excellent and dedicated team in the Office of General Counsel,” Quinn said.

Quinn has been a part of MSU’s legal team since 2016. Prior, he was a partner of the Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn law firm in Lansing and served as a judicial law clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Michael F. Cavanagh.

He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wayne State University and a juris doctorate from the MSU College of Law.
