Oct. 3 is the deadline for art grant applications administered by 'The Ella'

By Frank Weir Legal News The Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History ("The Ella") has announced a Monday, October 3 deadline for the first and only round of Fiscal Year 2012 Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) Minigrant applications. According to a spokesperson, The Ella serves as a regional regranting agency for the MCACA for Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee counties. "Projects proposed for funding during Round One may be held between January 1, 2012 and September 30, 2012. "For Fiscal Year 2012, there will only be one funding round and no organization can receive both a MCACA Grant and a MCACA Minigrant." Non-profit organizations in Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee counties planning an arts or cultural event during this period are invited to apply for funding including (but not limited to) service organizations, arts organizations, parks and recreational organizations, churches, professional associations, public and non-public schools, cities, townships, counties and villages. The MCACA Minigrant Program provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance, on a matching basis, to non-profit organizations for a wide variety of arts activities that offer special opportunities for communities to enjoy and participate in high quality arts activities not otherwise available. Decisions are made by a panel of qualified reviewers. New for Fiscal Year 2012 applicant organizations must participate in the Michigan Cultural Data Project (CDP). Organizations must have the most recently completed fiscal year's data entered and submitted into the CDP, which is online at www.miculturaldata.org. Organizations whose mission is not primarily arts and culture, and who do not offer regular, repeated arts and cultural programming as well as for whom this is a one-time project, may request an exemption to the CDP requirement. Another exemption would be if the organization is new and does not have a complete fiscal year's data or if the organization is a K-12 school. The FY 2012 application form, guidelines and additional information about CDP can be requested via email at creativeconsulingllc@gmail.com For further information, contact Alison Loveday, Minigrant Coordinator, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., at (734) 748-6001 or by email at creativeconsultingllc@gmail.com.
