New LED lights to be unveiled prior to May 25 fireworks show

The Jackson County Parks Association will unveil new LED rope lights at the Cascade Falls at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 with a brief 'relighting' ceremony. Cascade Falls Park is located at 1401 S Brown Street, Jackson. The $20,000 project, mostly funded from the Jackson County Parks Association, includes replacing the computer system, light software program, light controllers and the lights. The 1,230 incandescent bulbs (60 watts apiece) will be replaced with 90 LED rope lights that will allow for brighter, more vibrant light shows and save about 60% of energy costs. The new computer system and software will allow for more frequent updates to the show and music. The existing computer and software program was put into place in the early 1990's and requires cassette tapes to change the lights according to cues that were loaded onto the music. The evening's schedule includes: 6 p.m., gates Open; 7 p.m., The Steve Stokes Band; 9 p.m., ceremony recognizing Jackson County Parks Association; 9:30 p.m., fireworks. Entrance is $6 per person (10 and under are free). Concessions will be available. For more information, contact Jackson County Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Ransom at 517-768-2917.
