Jackson Community Action Agency helps families in need

The Community Action Agency, 1214 Greenwood, Jackson, is putting out a call for the Adopt-a-Family program. Companies, co-workers, friends, families, service organizations and more may be interested in getting involved in helping families in need.

The face of poverty in this country has changed quite a bit from the Appalachian poor to the “working poor” and the face of poverty in each community is unique, according to the agency’s website. “Poverty hurts, poverty for the most part is curable,” says the site.
The agency is also running a Warm the Children campaign in Jackson and Hillsdale counties. Jackson has had more than 862 requests for assistance, and to date has served more than 660 children. Hillsdale County will serve at least 127 children this year.
One hundred percent of donations go directly toward buying warm winter clothing in the county the donor specifies: Jackson or Hillsdale.
