Detective Gary Schuette retires from Jackson PD

Detective Gary Schuette retired from the Jackson Police Department on Sept. 23, after 27 years of distinguished service with the City of Jackson.

Schuette began his career as a parking enforcement checker on August 7, 1989 where he worked part-time until becoming a Police Cadet on February 24, 1990.

He attended the Washtenaw Community College Police Academy in 1991 and was promoted to the rank of Patrol Officer on September 21, 1991.  During his time as a patrol officer, Schuette served several years in the Department’s CRAC Unit and also served as a Community Police Officer.

Schuette was promoted to the rank of Police Detective on January 27, 1999 where he has served up until his retirement.  During his tenure as a detective, Schuette served several years on a federal task force through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

“Gary was an excellent detective with a vast amount of experience that will be missed,” said Director Matthew Heins.  “He handled an extraordinary number of high profile cases resulting in numerous convictions.  He certainly contributed to making Jackson a safe place to live.”
