Applications due by Nov. 22 for reserve officers, reserve deputies

The Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff is looking for community members interested in becoming reserve officers and reserve deputies.  Reserves are volunteers that assist the Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff.  Reserves may assist regular sworn officers on patrol or assist with special community events such as parades and fireworks. Candidates will receive extensive training including investigations, traffic, defensive tactics, firearms, and narcotics.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain a Concealed Pistol License.

Applications are available at the Jackson Police Department, Jackson Office of the Sheriff, or the City of Jackson website and must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22.

Although this is a joint academy, candidates will be selected and volunteer with only one department.

The academy will start in February and will meet for 14 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays, and a few Saturdays.

For more information, contact Sergeant Jennifer Flick, Jackson Police Department at 768-8755 or jflick@cityofjackson.org or Sergeant Cullen Knoblauch, Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, at 841-2961 or cknoblauch@co.jackson.mi.us.
