Mediation Council plans tribute to area attorney

The Family Mediation Council - Michigan will be holding  “MEDIATION: A Love Story — A Tribute in Honor of Barbara Johannessen,”  on Thursday, April 22 in Royal Oak.
Johannessen is an attorney from Rochester Hills who is well known for her contributions to dispute resolution generally and to family mediation specifically.
Johannessen will be honored at the Peking House in Royal Oak, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers and drinks followed by a dinner and Tribute Roast.
Johannessen was selected a Michigan Super Lawyer 2007, 2008 and 2009. 
She is a SCAO approved domestic relations mediator and trainer for general civil mediation, qualified under Michigan state law and serves as an Arbitrator for the FINRA (formerly National Association of Securities Dealers and NYSE). 
Johannessen is a mediator for the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Michigan Department of Career Development-Rehabilitation Services. 
She serves as adjunct instructor at Wayne State University and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. 
In her spare time, Johannessen is also in private practice as an Appropriate Dispute Resolution provider, Conflict Management consultant  and trainer.
 In September of 2009 Johannessen was honored as the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section of the State Bar of Michigan. 
She served as 2006 Chair of the ADR Section of the Michigan Bar and as chair and contributor to a number of its committees, activities and its long-range planning taskforce. 
In addition to her many Michigan services, she is a major contributor to the Advanced Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Institute (ANDRI) programs.
