New publishing imprint to broaden reach

The American Bar Association has launched Ankerwycke, a new trade book publishing imprint geared toward a consumer market and broader legal appeal.

The ABA publishes more than 200 new titles per year across a broad range of legal specialties and has long been considered the preeminent publisher of practical handbooks and legal guides for practicing attorneys. Now, ABA’s Ankerwycke line of books brings the law to the consumer market, with legal fiction, true crime books, popular legal histories, public policy handbooks and prescriptive guides to current legal and business issues.

Ankerwycke’s debut book “Supreme Ambitions,” a legal thriller and novel by David Lat, was recently released to rave reviews in The New York Times and The Washington Post, among other media outlets. Ankerwycke plans more than 35 books in 2015, including these key titles:

—“The Triumph of Genius: Edwin Land, Polaroid, and the Kodak Patent War,” by Ronald Fierstein (February).

—“Operation Greylord: The True Story of an Untrained Undercover Agent and America’s Biggest Corruption Bust,” by Terrence Hake with Wayne Klatt (June).

—“The Dealmaker’s Ten Commandments: Business Tips and Tactics from the Trenches of Hollywood,” by Jeff B. Cohen (May).

—“The Baghdad Lawyer: Fighting For Justice in Saddam’s Iraq,” by Dr. Sabah Aris (June).

—“Stolen Legacy: Nazi Theft and the Quest for Justice at Krausentrasse 17/18, Berlin,” by Dina Gold (June).

Ankerwycke titles will be distributed to the trade by National Book Network.

In 1215, Magna Carta was sealed underneath the ancient Ankerwycke Yew tree, starting the process which led to rule by constitutional law — in effect, giving rights and the law to the people. Today, the ABA’s Ankerwycke line of books continues to bring the law to the people. With legal fiction, true crime books, popular legal histories, public policy handbooks, and prescriptive guides to current legal and business issues, Ankerwycke is a contemporary  line of books for everyone from the ABA.
