Michigan has been selected to host the 2016 National Lieutenant Governors Association conference, with lieutenant governors from all 50 states and five territories invited to Grand Rapids for the annual meeting.
“Hosting the NLGA conference gives us the chance to show off what makes Michigan the Comeback State,” said Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley. “We have made great strides in moving our state forward in the past several years and this is an opportunity to share our story and collaborate with other lieutenant governors on best practices in one of the most dynamic and innovative cities in our state.”
The July 6-8, 2016 conference will focus on learning and sharing policies, programs, and accountability in state government.
The conference often leads to multi-state and regional innovations in areas ranging from public health to public safety, according to the NLGA, which estimates that hosting the event results in more than $300,000 of spending by visitors in the host state. The event is scheduled for July 6-8, 2016.
“The NLGA conference provides an opportunity for lieutenant governors to build relationships and work together to improve our country as a whole,” said Julia Hurst, executive director of the NLGA. “Michigan’s comeback story is very impressive and we look forward to visiting Grand Rapids next year to experience Pure Michigan for ourselves.”
No Michigan taxpayer dollars will be used for the conference, Calley said.
