Michigan Film Office changes name

LANSING (AP) — The Michigan Film Office’s new name is the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office.

Commissioner Jenell Leonard says the new name reflects major changes to the office’s vision after Gov. Rick Snyder and legislators eliminated future cash-rebate incentives to lure production companies to Michigan.

A 14-member advisory council is being restructured. And the office will renew its focus on attracting businesses that create content across all media channels such as mobile, animation, video games and social media.

The office was established in 1979 to assist in location scouting and directing the state’s film community.

The new, broader emphasis includes developing creative industries by bringing together stakeholders and private-sector investors in digital media.
