The Resolution Center recently held its 23rd annual Evening at the Movies event, the major fundraiser to support the non-profit center’s youth programs. Elizabeth Ferguson (center), a Mt. Clemens attorney, was honored with the center’s Lawrence W. Beckett Volunteer of the Year award, which was presented by Craig Pappas (left), Resolution Center executive director. The East Detroit Public School District was presented with the 2016 Conflict Resolution Advocacy award and Ryan McLeod (right), district superintendent, was on hand to receive the honor. Pappas said Ferguson has been working with the center for a few years and has become “one of our best assets,” noting that she mediated nearly 100 cases over the past 18 months. He said McLeod and other East Detroit school officials work with the center to address student conflict through either an adult facilitated mediation or student led peer mediation. The Resolution Center has been providing mediation as an out-of-court alternative to resolving disputes for more than two decades.
