Keeping the family business alive

The Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan presented “Business Succession Planning” on May 15 at the Columbia Center in Troy. Less than one-third of family businesses survive from one generation to the next, according to event organizers, and an important reason is the failure to plan. The Small Business Forum panel of experts discussed the complex issues involved in a successful business succession plan. Speaking at the event were (left to right) Bruce Haffey of Giamarco, Mullins, and?Horton PC; Cynthia Umphrey of Kemp Klein; and Tim Hilligoss of Clayton & McKervey PC.
