MAY IT PLEASE THE PALATE: Fran's Top-Secret Recipe

My sister Fran is famous for her Special K bars, which she makes in abundance at the holidays.

I asked her for her recipe, which she obliged, but with the admonishment: “You have to PROMISE to keep this a family SECRET recipe.”

Well, I hadn’t told her I planned to share it with my teeming multitude of readers. But I will honor her request.

Instead of sharing Fran’s recipe, I will provide a random one from the internet that is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from hers. (Insert emoji of eyeballs rolling, like marbles on the top floor on the Leaning Tower of Pisa.)

So here I present “Kookie Ookie’s” recipe from Genius Kitchen, which promises to be “ready in 17 minutes, serves 20-25.”

Hmm. Must be in far larger quantities than Fran’s. (Whoops — there go those eyeballs again!)

Special K Bars
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
7 cups Rice Special K cereal
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1⁄2 cup butter

DIRECTIONS:

Melt together corn syrup and sugar.

Turn off heat and add peanut butter.

Stir in cereal.

Pour into lightly greased 9x13 inch pan, pressing lightly with buttered fingers or wax paper.

Melt together chocolate chips, buttterscotch chips and butter until completely melted. Spread over bars and allow to cool.

Fran, your secret is safe with me.
