Partnership to curb opioid crisis launches

LANSING (AP) — A public-private effort has launched in Michigan that aims to curb opioid overdoses and deaths.

Officials this week announced the creation of the Michigan Opioid Partnership.

It plans to distribute $2.6 million in grants focusing on medication-assisted treatment, which experts say is an effective approach combining medication and behavioral therapy.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which is part of the collaborative, says about 1,900 of the nearly 2,700 drug overdose deaths in the state last year have been attributed to opioids.

Patrol:  Six-state initiative results in 700 DUI arrests

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's State Highway Patrol says a recent enforcement and awareness effort on impaired driving as part of a multi-state law enforcement partnership resulted in a total of 700 arrests for driving under the influence.

The patrol reports 280 of those arrests were made in Ohio.

State police from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana also participated in the initiative that was in effect for three days earlier this month. It also was aimed at educating motorists about the dangers of impaired driving.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a partnership created to provide combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol, and information sharing.

Man caught on video driving through Christmas display

GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) — An apparent Grinch was spotted on surveillance video plowing through a Christmas display outside a suburban Indianapolis home and tips are being sought to find the man.
WRTV broadcast the video recorded Sunday night by a neighbor's camera in Greenwood.

The video starts with a man getting out of a black SUV and then walking up to take a closer look at the front yard where Casie Arnold says her family had a 12-foot-tall inflatable snowman.

The man gets back into the vehicle, backs up and drives through the family's yard and over the decoration.

Arnold said they heard a pop while watching a Christmas movie. Tire tracks were in the yard.

Police give $3 to person who found it 14 years earlier

MONMOUTH BEACH, N.J. (AP) — Police in New Jersey have given $3 to the person who found it 14 years ago.

Paige Woodie was 12 years old when she and a friend discovered the cash and turned it into a Monmouth Beach police officer in 2004.

Sgt. Jeff Godwin tells the Asbury Park Press people who turn in found money are able to claim it within a reasonable amount of time if no one comes forward. The cash turned up during an audit and police “thought it had been long enough.”

Woodie says officers came to her home and asked if she could remember what she did in 2004. She couldn’t think of anything bad. That’s when the officers turned over the $3 in an evidence bag.

She says half belongs to her friend.
