Circuit Court Judge Mark Switalski announces retirement

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Switalski has announced his retirement, effective January 2022.

Switalski, 70, was first elected to the circuit court in 2000 and has four years remaining in his current term.

Switalski started his judicial career as a 39th District Court magistrate in 1983, then served as a judge on the bench.

Prior to that, the Boston University School of Law graduate was in private practice for more than 10 years.

Circuit Court Chief Judge James M. Biernat Jr. said Switalski “has always maintained a dignified and courteous demeanor on the bench and still managed to inject humor into his interactions with his colleagues and staff.”


Applications sought for vacancy on the state Court of Appeals

Applications are now being accepted for a seat on the Michigan Court of Appeals, 1st District, a vacancy created by the recent death of Judge Karen Fort Hood.

To be considered for this position, applicants must be a State Bar of Michigan member who meets the legal qualifications for this office.

Applicants should be aware that to be appointed they must reside within the judicial district.

Judicial appointment questionnaire, writing samples, resume and supplemental documents must be submitted using the online portal at www.michigan.gov/appointments and received by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.

Additional letters of recommendation can still be submitted after the initial submission to judicialappointments@michigan.gov.

The State Bar of Michigan’s Practice Management Resource Center (PMRC) will present “Creating a Practice You Deserve,” on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 3 p.m. via Zoom.

PMRC’s online program features Katy Goshtasbi who will provide the marketing and branding tools attorneys need to promote their practice. This seminar will provide the knowledge and skills to:

  • Create and “own” your self-marketing plan.
  • Use your marketing plan to attract more clients, have more time off and have more fun.
  • Share your message easily and with the right people to make it resonate.
  • Promote yourself in a way that is comfortable for you, whether you are an introvert or extrovert.
