Modern jazz group kicks off library music series

The sounds of modern jazz music will flow through the rows of bookshelves at the Loutit District Library Sept. 9 as the library kicks off its ninth annual Sunday Afternoon Concert Series with the Galen Bundy Piano Trio.

The Trio, featuring Bundy on piano, Jon Taylor on drums and Eric Nachtrab on bass, is a modern jazz group heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk music and Romantic era composers. Great importance is placed on the sensitivity of interaction between the three instruments.

Bundy's performance is the first in a series of nine free monthly concerts held at the library, 407 Columbus Ave. in Grand Haven, on the second Sunday of the month through May 2019 with the final offering on May 19. Concerts are held on the library’s upper level lobby from 2:00-3:00 p.m. For more information on the Trio, visit www.galenbundy.com/pianotrio.

As Loutit rolls into its ninth concert season, library director John Martin believes his library creates a center for the arts providing access to all people and offering local musicians a voice in the community.

“Despite rising costs of concert tickets around the area, [our] series is offered free of charge, enabling people from any income level to attend,” Martin said. “[O]ur series offers local musical performers a stage to an audience who appreciates their efforts and talents.”
