Work underway on breakwater reconstruction

As Muskegonites await the relaxation of the need to stay inside and distant from people, work is continuing so that they can eventually pursue one of their favorite pastimes: walking along the breakwater that extends to the lighthouse at Pere Marquette.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers got back to its ambitious project to repair the South Breakwater “connector” as warmer weather hit. The breakwater was completely closed last fall for safety reasons.

The Army Corps will work on “additional armor stone placement, demolition of the structure’s surface and placement of a new concrete cap” according to its original announcement.

Great Lakes Dock & Materials has contracted to do the actual work.
