'The Neighborhood' mural painting begins at Muskegon Heights Library

The Muskegon Area District Library, Muskegon Heights Branch is getting a fresh new makeover on its exterior wall. Local artist, Jubenal Rodriquez is painting “The Neighborhood” mural on the building at the corner of Sanford and Broadway.

The colorful illustration depicts elements of the new Storyville Village located inside the library, which includes a house with a kitchen, garden, and reading porch. Muskegon Storyville is an early literacy, child-size village where children ages 0-5 can let their imaginations run wild.

Images reflect the intent of the Muskegon Storyville Village which is  to help prepare children for Kindergarten by focusing on playing, reading, singing, talking and writing. Storyville Villages are located in the Montague, Muskegon Heights and Norton Shores branches. They opened in January and hundreds of families visited them. They are temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
