The Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) will host a virtual luncheon meeting on Tuesday, March 23, from noon to 1:15 p.m. via Zoom.
Melissa Eckhause, a visiting assistant professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, will be presenting on “Changes to IP Law under the COVID-19 Relief Bill.” The presentation will examine the newly enacted Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act, which creates a small-claims tribunal to hear copyright infringement matters with damages under $30,000, and the Protecting Lawful Streaming Act, which makes certain pirated streaming a felony. The presentation also will discuss the Trademark Modernization Act of 2020, which, among other things, creates new procedures for ex parte challenges of existing registrations.
Email Andrea Arndt at AArndt@dickinsonwright.com by March 16 and receive a link to the meeting.
