Michigan judges honored for support of families

High court bestows awards The Michigan Supreme Court presented The Honorable Robert E. Weiss Awards to four Michigan judges during the Adoption & Permanency Forum Sept. 27 at the Commonwealth Commerce Center in downtown Jackson. The awards are named for the long time family court judge from Flint known for his work on behalf of children, and are given to judges noted for excellence in service to children and families Above, right: Award presenters Robert S. Sykes, chief judge of the Ionia County Probate Court and Maura D. Corrigan, director of the Michigan Department of Human Services listen as Judge Robert J. Butts thanks his team. Butts leads the Cheboygan County Child Protection Mediation Team that was presented with the award for Excellence in Working as a Team. The award for Excellence in Judicial Leadership was presented to Judge Timothy P. Connors (right) of the Washtenaw County Circuit Court. Judge Connors chairs the State-Tribal Court Relations Committee of the Michigan State Court Administrator's Office Court Improvement Program as well as the State-Tribal Court Relations Ad Hoc Committee of the Michigan Judges Association.
