Chamber will teach how to land government contracts

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will bring local businesses together to learn how they can become a successful government contractor at a seminar from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2nd at the Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave. in Jackson. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Pennie Southwell from The Enterprise Group of Jackson's Procurement Technical Assistance Center will lead the session titled, "Procurement 101" to provide local businesses with the knowledge and resources needed to successfully obtain government contracts. ''The government is going to buy from someone,'' said Southwell. ''Why not from Jackson businesses?'' The government purchases more than $415 billion of goods and services every year and this short seminar will give insight into how to become that contractor. It is recommended that those in attendance be the management and key players who will support and facilitate government contracting. The cost is $15 for chamber members and $25 for nonmembers. To preregister, call the chamber at 517-782-8221 or email Mary@ JacksonChamber.org. More information and online registration available at www. JacksonChamber.org. Published: Mon, Jul 23, 2012
