Five candidates interviewed for G-A superintendent position May 21-22

The Galesburg-Augusta School Board narrowed its choice for the superintendent position to five candidates and was scheduled to interview the candidates May 21 and 22.

The finalists and scheduled interview dates are:

Tuesday, 5/21/24

  • Dr. Beth Peterson (magnet school coordinator - Jefferson County, KY)
  • Dr. Danielle McGuire (director of Instructional Services - Bangor Public Schools)
  • Dr. Lindsey Newton (high school principal - Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools)

Wednesday, 5/22/24

  • Rick Frens (superintendent of Schoolcraft Community Schools)
  • Dr. Andy Fuehr (principal of Amberly Elementary - Portage Public Schools)

The board was scheduled to narrow its list of candidates down for a second round of interviews scheduled for June 1, 2 and 3, on May 22. The second round of interviews will also be the first opportunity for the board to select a new superintendent.

July 1 will be the start date for the new superintendent.

The posting for the position closed May 10 and the district had a total of twelve applicants who were thoroughly vetted through an extensive pre-screening process. Many of the applicants met the criteria the district wanted in its new superintendent, which was noted in the profile that the district created from the stakeholder surveys and input sessions.

At a special meeting May 15, the school board reviewed all of the applicants and agreed to interview the five candidates that were scheduled to be interviewed May 21 and 22.

Current G-A Superintendent Wendy Somers will retire at the end of the current school year.
