Martin ends Lady Panthers’ season


Martin used a big start and continued to flex its offensive presence the rest of the game in a 13-1 win over the Climax-Scotts varsity softball team June 1 in the district semifinals at Gobles.

Martin went on to capture the district championship with a 7-5 win over Gobles.

The Lady Panthers complete the season with a 12-12-1 record.

Martin jumped on C-S for six runs in the bottom of the first.

C-S responded with a run in the top of the second when Addy Reeves singled, moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Makenzee Grimm and scored on an RBI single by Lylah Parrish.
However Martin responded with a two-run second, two more runs in the third and three runs in the fourth.

Parrish finished with two hits and one RBI.

C-S struggled in the field, committing four errors that led to four unearned runs.

Starting and losing pitcher Addy Reeves struggled with her control at times, issuing 10 walks. She allowed eight hits and nine earned runs with one strikeout over four innings.

Lady Panthers win regular season finale


The Climax-Scotts varsity softball team ended the regular season on a positive note by posting a 15-5 win over Camden-Frontier Tuesday at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Addy Reeves scattered four hits, but struggled with control, allowing 10 walks, throwing three wild pitches and hitting two batters. She struck out four batters.

Rylie Altman had three hits and drove in one run and Addi Dzwik, who had three RBI, Holly Talbert, who drove in two runs, Hailey Talbert, who drove in one run and Jaise Lane, who drove in one run, each had two hits to lead C-S at the plate.

G-A’s Jaidyn Klimp is
all-state medal winner


Galesburg-Augusta junior Jaidyn Klimp earned an all-state medal in one event and fell just short of capturing a second medal in another at the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals at Kent City High School June 1.

The top eight finishers in each event earn all-state medals.

Klimp earned an all-state medal in the 400-meter dash by placing eighth with a time of 59.67, which was slightly better then her state finals qualifying time of 59.66 at the regionals.

Klimp was also an all-state medalist in the 400-meter dash last year, finishing fifth with a time of 59.68 and the G-A junior qualified for the same event her freshman year, finishing in 12th place with a time of 1:01.44.

Klimp also competed in the 200-meter dash, but did not make it out of the preliminaries, finishing 12th with a time of 26.34. That time was better then her time of 26.98 that qualified her for the state finals at the regionals, but was just .13 seconds behind the eighth place finisher (27.11).

Rams fall in district championship game


After using strong pitching to advance to the district championship game, the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team were victims of strong pitching by their opponent in a district championship game loss to Kalamazoo Christian June 1 at Parchment.

Jaden Fawcett limited Parchment to just two hits in a 10-0 Ram win in the district semifinal game, however Kalamazoo Christian held the Rams to just two hits in a 6-0 Comet win in the district championship game.

K-Christian defeated Comstock 11-0 in the other district semifinal game.

The Rams complete the season with a 18-11 record.

Colin Hatton and Jonah Ranes provided G-A’s only hits in the district championship game.

Five G-A errors led to five unearned Comet runs.

G-A put runners in scoring position in four innings, but could not push a runner across.

In the bottom of the first inning Alex Krugh drew a walk and advanced to second on Colin Hatton’s single, but he was stranded.

The Rams also stranded a runner in scoring position when Fawcett advanced to second base on an error.

Hatton drew a lead off walk to lead off the fourth and moved to second on Jonah Ranes’ single, but again, the Rams could not score.

G-A’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ethan Gibson drew a one-out walk, stole second base and third base and Nolan Brewer walked, however the next two Rams were retired.

Starting pitcher Nolan Brewer suffered the loss, allowing four hits and one earned run with one walk.

Fawcett dominated the Panthers in the district semifinal win.

He retired 10 straight Panthers at one point of the game, throwing 59 of his 100 pitches for strikes. Fawcett struck out nine and walked one batter.

Nate Ewart had three hits, Kameron Prince had two hits including a double and drove in three runs and Ranes had two hits including a double and drove in two runs.

G-A drops final 2 regular season games


The Rams ended the regular season with two losses to Coloma May 29.

G-A, losers of three straight and seven out of the last nine, dropped the first game 4-1 and came up short 6-2 in the second game.

G-A got on the scoreboard first in the first game on a one-out single by Alex Krugh, but Coloma tied the game 1-1 in the third, pushed two runs across in the fourth and added a single run in the sixth.

Krugh finished with two hits and one RBI.

Nolan Brewer suffered the loss in relief, allowing two hits, two runs and two walks with four strikeouts in two innings pitched.

G-A outhit Coloma 8-3, but could not overcome four errors in the second game.

The four G-A errors led to four unearned runs for Coloma.

Krugh started and was the losing pitcher after he allowed two hits, one earned run, and one walk with six strikeouts.

Jaden Fawcett had two hits and drove in one run.
