New and old traditions make Scotts Days an event for the entire family, July 19-21

The Scotts parade is something local residents look forward to each year.

Some newer traditions that started last year will be paired up with popular older traditions in Scotts July 19-21.

This annual event is put on by the Pride of Scotts.

The Scotts Olde Tyme Power and Equipment Association Tractor and Steamer Show will begin the big weekend July 19 at Scotts Mill County Park.

The tractor and steamer show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 and 20 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21.

The Pride of Scotts Community Garage Sales will be held July 19 and 20, however some local residents may have extended dates for their garage sales.

The parade will be held Saturday, July 20, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Scotts.

Threshing machine demonstrations are one of many activities for visitors to enjoy at the Scotts Olde Tyme Power & Equipment Association Steamer show.

Parade coordinator King Perkins said parade line up should begin at Perkins Tire and near the Scotts Elementary School at 9 a.m.

The parade route will be the same as previous parades. The parade will begin on East QR Avenue near the elementary school, turn north onto 36th Street through Scotts, turn left onto Norscot
Street, proceed down Wallene Street, turn back onto East QR Ave. heading west, turn north onto 35th Street and end inside Scotts Mill County Park.

Perkins guessed there will be typical parade entries like fire trucks, motorcycles, tractors, old cars, and maybe a float or two.

The old car show was incorporated into the Scotts Days lineup two years ago and has proven to be quite popular.

A car show that was brought into the Scotts Day lineup in 2022 and has grown in popularity, will be back July 20 in the Scotts Community Center parking lot. Other features July 20 include a bouncy tent for kids, a chicken dinner from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. put on by Dig In Catering that was started last year and proved to be very popular, and vendors inside and outside the Community Center.

Sno-cone sales hosted by the Swager family using the late Vic Swager’s sno-cone machine, along with a bake sale, will be set up on the grounds of the Community Center.

There will also be an electric bike raffle, with the drawing taking place at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 or 3/$50 available until drawing.

Perkins is hoping the weekend event in Scotts will grow each year and said increased advertising and feedback indicate a strong turn out this year.

“I’ve got a lot of people coming back. More cars and tractors. I’ve got a lot of guys happy for the car show. I think we’re going to have a good turn out. Hope for no rain,” said Perkins, who said he visited with many participants at the Vicksburg Old Car Show who expressed interest in bringing their old cars to Scotts.

The feature tractor at the Steamer Show will be the John Deere R and the feature hit and miss engine will be the 1919 3HP John Deere.

Kiddie train rides, peddle tractor pulls, saw mill demonstrations and threshing machine demonstrations powered by older tractors will be running during the Olde Tyme Tractor and Steamer Show. The grist mill will be open but will not be operating.

Free vendor space is available and hot dogs, pop and water for a donation to the club will be available.

Admission for the Steamer show is $5 per vehicle, however a Kalamazoo County Parks pass will be honored.

Call 269-579-4627 for more information. More information is also available on the Scotts Olde Tyme Power & Equipment Association Facebook page.

The Community Garage Sales will be advertised, however a list of registered garage sale locations containing items expected to be sold at each location, will be printed on a flyer for registered garage sale locations to pass out to visitors.

Proceeds from the chicken dinner, bake sale and any donations offered by vendors for space at the Community Center will go to the Pride of Scotts.

Money raised previously at this event has been used for improvements at the Community Center (new flooring was installed last year) and help pay for postage to send the military boxes the Pride of Scotts sends twice a year.

“I think it will be a good year,” said Perkins.
