Detroit Mercy Law student named winner of writing competition award

Jordan Miletti, 3L, was named a winner of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel’s (ACTEC) 2024 Mary Moers Wenig Student Writing Competition. Miletti received the honorable mention award along with a cash prize. Her paper titled “Testamentary Freedom and Forced Heirship: Two Sides of the Same Inheritance Coin?” will be published online on the ACTEC Foundation’s website and may also be included in the ACTEC Law Journal.

Miletti drafted the paper under the guidance of Professor Julia Belian, an expert in estates and trusts, foundations and charitable organizations, and property law. “ACTEC is an elite organization. This is an incredible honor for our student,” said Professor Belian.

“This recognition from ACTEC is as much a testament to Professor Belian’s mentorship as it is to my work,” commented Miletti. “She encouraged me to approach complex problems with creativity and to question conventional wisdom, all while offering her support through any obstacles I encountered. This balance of autonomy and guidance allowed me to grow as a scholar and produce a paper that I am incredibly proud of.”
