The ‘Inside Story’

More than 400 people turned out at the Detroit Institute of Arts for a November 20 book-release event for the “Grand Bargain: The Inside Story of Detroit’s Dramatic Journey from Bankruptcy to Rebirth.” The book was written by Gerald Rosen, former chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan who served as the principal judicial mediator of the Detroit bankruptcy case that began in July 2013. Rosen, now a mediator for the Detroit office of JAMS, was among a blue-ribbon list of panelists at the DIA event, sharing their perspectives on the case that was the largest municipal bankruptcy filing in the nation’s history. Among the other panelists participating were former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder; Dan Gilbert, co-founder and chairman of Rocket Companies; Gene Gargaro, chairman emeritus of the DIA; Kevyn Orr, former emergency manager for the City of Detroit; retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes, who presided over the bankruptcy case; and retired U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts, who served as one of the mediators and now is with the Detroit office of JAMS. The book can be purchased by visiting GrandBargainBook.com.
