Honigman expands Israeli office and launches Investment Funds practice

Honigman LLP announced on Tuesday the impending addition of four attorneys to its Israeli subsidiary, Honigman Law Israel (HLI): Oron Eli from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP; Joshua Gottesman from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP (Simpson Thacher); Amit Roitman from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP; and Mayer Stein from Simpson Thacher. With the additions of Gottesman and Stein, Honigman also announced the formal launch of its Investment Funds practice.

Honigman established Honigman Law Israel in 2022 to attract exceptionally credentialed and experienced U.S. attorneys. With the additions of Eli, Gottesman, Roitman and Stein, Honigman’s Israel office will grow to nine attorneys.

Gottesman will join HLI as a founding partner—alongside Israel-based partner Sam Katz—of Honigman’s Investment Funds practice. Gottesman, Katz and Stein, together with a team of Honigman LLP attorneys, bring extensive experience counseling investment advisers on the formation, structuring, offering, and ongoing operations of domestic and offshore investment vehicles, including private equity, real estate, debt, co-investment and continuation funds.

Gottesman brings to Honigman eight years of fund formation experience from Simpson Thacher, one of the country’s leading funds law firms. Stein also joins from Simpson Thacher funds group.

Eli, who joins Honigman’s Private Equity group from Paul, Weiss, focuses on private equity investments and mergers and acquisitions.

Roitman, who joins the firm from Pillsbury Winthrop, specializes in insurance recovery and complex coverage disputes through litigation. She represents corporate and institutional policyholders in complex disputes against insurance companies involving a range of policy types, including commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, professional liability errors and omissions, employment practices liability, and first-party property.

“Honigman Law Israel has enabled us to attract exceptional attorneys – highly regarded in their fields and in their firms – who find in HLI a unique opportunity to follow their personal interest in relocating to Israel. HLI is a valuable tool in our continuous effort to attract and retain the best lawyers,” said Joshua F. Opperer, a partner in Honigman’s private equity group and Director of Honigman Law Israel. “We are excited for Josh, Amit, Mayer and Oron to join the firm and to formally launch our Investment Funds practice.”
