Gloria Lara appointed interim executive director of WMEAC

The Board of Directors of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) recently announced the appointment of Gloria Lara as interim executive director.

Lara has extensive leadership experience in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. She previously held executive roles at Chrysler Corporation and automotive suppliers, before transitioning to nonprofit leadership as CEO of the Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore (Grand Rapids) and the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (Detroit).

Most recently, she led the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (Holland), where she focused on advancing equity, justice, and belonging.

She has exceptional strengths in areas of financial stewardship, strategic development, collaborative teambuilding, and relationship building across diverse stakeholders.

She has served on numerous local, state-wide, and national boards and finance committees, lending her expertise in both finance and governance. She has been reappointed as a commissioner to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, with her term expiring on December 31, 2028.

Lara, who holds a BA in Business Administra-tion from California State University, Fullerton, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, will serve as interim executive director for six months, with the possibility of additional extensions.
