Senate unanimously co-sponsors, approves Patriot Week resolution
Early last week, the State Senate unanimously co-sponsored and approved State Senate Resolution No. 76, designating Sept. 11-17, 2011 as Michigan Patriot Week. Patriot Week was co-created by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his 12-year old daughter Leah.
"We really appreciate the Senate's leadership on this issue," said Leah Warren. "Patriot Week excites students and citizens in general to learn about--and celebrate--what makes America the greatest nation in world history."
"Senate passage of the Patriot Week resolution continues Michigan leadership position in renewing the American spirit," remarked Judge Warren. "All Americans need to take time to remember what keeps us free, and Patriot Week is vital to renewing the American spirit. If we are to maintain our liberty in a free republic, our citizens must have a deeply rooted understanding of our Constitution, its generating history, and its underlying First Principles. Approval of Senate Resolution No. 76 is an important step in maintaining our free republic."
Patriot Week is celebrated in Michigan and across the country in schools, universities, libraries, community organizations, government agencies, and others. Public events and additional information can be found at www.PatriotWeek.org.
Earlier in the year, the State Senate and State House had passed bills to permanently recognize Patriot Week, but those bills are still pending a final vote.
