George Chatman
DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit district court judge has been found dead in an east side Detroit home.
Police found George Chatman's body after responding last Friday afternoon to a 911 call.
A cause of death has not been released pending an autopsy by the Wayne County medical examiner's office. Chatman's death is under investigation.
The longtime Detroit attorney was appointed last year by then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm to fill a vacancy at 36th District Court. His term was to expire on Jan. 1, 2013.
The 66-year-old Chatman had been in private practice and before his district court appointment was a member of the United Auto Workers Legal Services Plan Cooperating Attorney Panel.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.
