On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the Family Law Assistance Project (FLAP) celebrated its five-year anniversary of providing full-case family law direct-client service representation to all indigent domestic violence victims in Oakland County.
FLAP is a partnership between the Michigan State Bar Foundation, the Oakland County Bar Foundation, the Oakland County Bar Association, Lakeshore Legal Aid, and Cooley Law School.
During its five years of existence, FLAP has provided legal assistance to more than 6,000 clients, with the help of 55 Cooley students and more than 150 Oakland County Bar Association volunteer lawyers who have provided more than 9,000 hours of pro bono service worth over $2,000,000.
A plaque recognizing these contributions was dedicated at Cooley's Auburn Hills campus, where FLAP's legal services offices have been housed free of charge since 2008.
On hand for the plaque dedication was (left to right) Cooley Law School Associate Dean John Nussbaumer, Oakland County Bar Foundation President Patrick McCauley, Karen Stazel, Matthew Andres, Marie Wolf, Cooley Law Professor Ashley Lowe, Bill Knight, and Catherine McGee.
