The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) New Lawyers Committee (NLC) hosted its Adopt-a-Family Charity Drive gift wrapping party on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Oakland County Bar Center in Bloomfield Hills.
Helping to wrap gifts were (left to right) Summer Parker of Potestivo & Associates PC; Debra Janicki of The Googasian Firm; Sarah Harwood, law clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly; Barry Malone of Adkison, Need, & Allen PLLC holding Rekha Guha; Syeda Davidson of Lakeshore Legal Aid; Allison Lavoie of Oakland County Circuit Court; Lori Schmeltzer; and West Bloomfield attorney Jeffrey Kaplan.
“Usually the New Lawyers Committee picks a charity we’re able to do a project with. This year we picked Helping Families Cope, which provides low-income families with counseling services, however it meant that we couldn’t do a joint project with them. So what we did instead was have the counselors at Helping Families Cope choose a family that they felt was going to most need help this Christmas and we adopted them,” Davidson said.
“This family has three children and a baby on the way.”
