Cooley to host Michigan Notable Books' author Jack Dempsey, May 17
Jack Dempsey, author of "Michigan and the Civil War: A Great and Bloody Sacrifice," will be visiting Cooley Law School's Auburn Hills campus at noon on Thursday, May 17, to talk about his latest book as part of the 2012 Michigan Notable Books Program. The book offers a glimpse into Michigan's role in the preservation of the union.
Each year, the Michigan Notable Books list features 20 books published during the previous calendar year that are about, or set in, Michigan or the Great Lakes region or are written by a native or resident of Michigan.
Dempsey is vice-president of the Michigan Historical Commission, chairman of the Michigan History Foundation, and chairman of the Michigan Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee. He is a member of the Ann Arbor Civil War Roundtable and the Civil War Trust.
"Jack Dempsey's book wonderfully captures Michigan's crucial role in saving the union and in leading the effort to abolish slavery," said Don LeDuc, Cooley Law School president and dean. "Cooley is honored to bring the Michigan Notable Books Program to our campuses each year."
The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and signing during the event.
