Veteran Identification Card now available from county

Oakland County's 73,000 veterans may now obtain a Veteran Identification Card from the county, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard Jr. announced at a recent news conference. Local veterans told Bullard they wanted the card. With the support of Patterson and the Board of Commissioners, especially Commissioners William Dwyer and Mike Bosnic, the resolution's primary sponsors, the Clerk's office issued its first Veteran Identification Cards last Thursday. "Since taking office, I have heard from a number of veterans who wished they had access to a way to recognize their service that they could carry with them daily," said Bullard. "Our Veteran Identification Card is a way to acknowledge and honor their great service to our nation." "I know from personal experience that a little recognition means a great deal to veterans," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "That's why I created my 'Proud to be a Vet' button and wholeheartedly support the Oakland County Veteran Identification Card." The Veteran Identification Card may be purchased for $10 from the Clerk's Office, located at 1200 North Telegraph in Pontiac. Oakland County Veterans who have filed the requisite paperwork at the Clerk's Office or have their unfiled discharge papers in their possession are eligible to file and purchase the card. Along with the military discharge paperwork a valid state ID is needed to purchase the Veterans Identification Card; both must be brought in person to have a photo taken.
