Oakland County honored with national digital prize
Oakland County is ranked among the most digitally advanced counties in America for the eighth year in a row in the 2012 Digital Counties Survey by the Center for Digital Government (CDG).
The survey is conducted by CDG, Government Technology magazine, and the National Association of Counties (NACo). It evaluates counties on their ability to demonstrate successful outcomes through the strategic use of technology.
"Oakland County's IT team has an ongoing commitment to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "Our innovative cloud computing initiative, G2G Cloud Solutions, is having a national impact as the host of NACo's new application store which will expand the number of technology solutions that we share with other counties around America."
In making the announcement, Government Technology said, "Ten winners were named in each of four population-based categories. The winning counties carried out strategies with measurable benefits that aligned with county priorities. Successful programs also showed progress over the previous year, utilized innovative solutions, and revealed a commitment to collaboration within and outside of their organization."
Oakland County ranked higher than nearly all the counties with a population of 500,000 or more.
"Oakland County is expanding its technology vision beyond successful technology collaborations with local communities, the State of Michigan, and other government agencies in the Southeastern Michigan region. Now we are looking at what we can do nationwide," said Oakland County Deputy Executive/CIO Phil Bertolini. "Being recognized as one of the most technologically advanced counties in America validates our approach to shared enterprise technology and collaborative services."
