Ex-Wayne county official indicted in bribery scheme

DETROIT (AP) -- A former Wayne County official has been charged with obstructing justice and falsifying documents to conceal a bribery scheme. Detroit's U.S. Attorney's office says Zayd Allebban was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury. He's expected to be arraigned Thursday in U.S. District Court. The 33-year-old Allebban had been the county's Enterprise Application director. He's accused of conspiring with his supervisor, Tahir Kazmi, to persuade a private contractor to lie to FBI agents investigating corruption in county government. The Associated Press left a message for Allebban at a number listed for him. Kazmi pleaded guilty last week to taking bribes and told a judge he took cash and trips to Hawaii, Turkey and Florida totaling $70,000.
