Commissioner reaches fifty year milestone

On Monday, Aug. 13, Oakland County Commissioner Bill Dwyer commemorated fifty years of public service. Dwyer began his career in 1962, serving in Detroit and working his way through the ranks ending his 23 year tenure as the Detroit Police Department's Chief's Division. He resumed his public service career, serving 23 years as the Farmington Hills Police chief before accepting a position as the Warren Police commissioner where he served for two and a half years. As an Oakland County Commissioner for District #14 representing Farmington and Farmington Hills, Dwyer has served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners since being elected in November 2010. He is the host of a weekly public affairs show entitled, "Commissioner's Corner," and currently serves as the Board of Commissioners' vice chairman of the Public Services Committee. He is a member of the Finance Committee and is the Ethics Committee chair for the county. Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michael J. Gingell recognizes Dwyer's achievement by stating, "I would like to congratulate Commissioner Dwyer on this milestone. He has served the people in various capacities, but as always served with dignity and honor. We are fortunate to have Bill serving in his current position as an Oakland County commissioner and I look forward to working with him well into the future." Farmington Mayor Tom Buck shared similar sentiments stating, "Bill has always provided great service to the community through his professional and public service side. With efforts like the Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Foundation that supports police officers and their families, he continues to support the community as an Oakland County commissioner. I congratulate him on his 50 years of exceptional service." Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard stated, "Bill Dwyer has been a tireless and dedicated public servant. First and foremost as a successful leader in law enforcement and now in the policy world as an Oakland County commissioner." "It has been an honor to serve for the past 50 years, I have the privilege of working in a field that I love.
