The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that Karen L. Boore has joined the firm as an associate in the Real Estate Group in the Troy office. She focuses her practice on commercial development, economic development incentives, construction law, and commercial leasing.
Prior to joining the firm, she served as a federal court intern for U.S. District Court Judge John Corbett O'Meara, Eastern District of Michigan. She also interned with Wayne County's Economic Development Growth Engine.
Boore earned her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and her B.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
Additionally, Miller Canfield announces that Kirti Sarkar has joined the firm as an associate in the Real Estate Group in the Troy office. She assists developers, corporations, lenders, borrowers, governmental entities, landlords and tenants, buyers, and sellers in transactions that involve all types of real property.
Prior to joining Miller Canfield, she served as an intern to U.S. District Court Judge Bernard A. Friedman, Eastern District of Michigan, and as an intern in the in-house legal department of Checkpoint Systems, Inc.
She earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and B.A. from Michigan State University.

Darryl Bressack has been named partner at Bloomfield Hills-based Fink & Associates Law. Managing Partner David H. Fink made the announcement.
Bressack joined Fink & Associates Law in April of 2011 and focuses his practice on commercial litigation, including individual and class actions, in the areas of antitrust, securities fraud and consumer fraud. In 2012, Bressack was honored as one of the "Top 40 Under 40" outstanding young litigators in Michigan by the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Bressack earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida and his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He has been listed multiple times as a Rising Star in Michigan Super Lawyers and was named a Michigan Lawyer's Weekly Up & Coming Lawyer in 2011. Bressack is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan.

Wayne State University Professor of Law Charles "Chip" Brower has been awarded the Smit-Lowenfeld Prize, which recognizes the outstanding article published in 2011 on any aspect of international arbitration.
The prize, which includes an honorarium of $2,500, is given each year by The International Arbitration Club of New York, which comprises more than 90 of the best known arbitration lawyers and law professors in New York. The award will be presented Jan. 29 in New York.
The winning article, "Arbitration and Antitrust: Navigating the Contours of Mandatory Law," was published in December 2011 in the Buffalo Law Review. The article examines how, when and why the mandatory laws of varying jurisdictions may be applied in international disputes.
Brower is an arbitrator on the commercial panel of the American Arbitration Association, and has taught and written about human rights, international business transactions, international commercial arbitration, the law of armed conflict and public international law for the last 15 years.
He is an elected member of the American Law Institute, vice chair of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, immediate past chair of the ITA's Academic Council, a member of the board of directors of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society and a member of its Academic Advisory Council. He is co-editor-in-chief of World Arbitration and Mediation Review and a reporter for NAFTA developments at Kluwer Arbitration online.
Before joining Wayne Law, he was Croft Professor of International Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law, and has been an advocate for the government of the Republic of Costa Rica in advisory proceedings before the International Court of Justice.

Brett A. Krueger, a partner in Honigman, Miller, Schwartz, and Cohn LLP's Intellectual Property Department and Patent Practice Group, has been named one of Michigan Lawyers Weekly's 20 "Up and Coming" attorneys.
Before becoming an attorney, Krueger worked as an engineer and owned his own business, which helps him provide a unique perspective to his clients' work. In his law practice, he counsels clients on identifying, evaluating, procuring, enforcing and licensing intellectual property rights, as well as the avoidance of infringement risks. In addition, he manages U.S. and worldwide patent portfolios for clients.
He earned his law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
Additionally, for the second consecutive year, Honigman has been recognized as one of the country's "101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" by the National Association of Business Resources (NABR). Honigman is one of only two law firms to receive this honor.

George Mosher, an attorney at intellectual property law firm Brooks Kushman PC, was honored at the 20th Annual Quality People/Quality County (Q2) Awards event. Mosher was one of only three recipients of this award for 2012, which recognizes individuals who have contributed to improving the quality of life in Oakland County.
Mosher was honored at an awards event hosted by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, which was held on Dec. 10. The event occurs annually to honor those who have helped make Oakland County a better place to live.
As founder of Oakland Community College and the first chairman of its Board of Trustees, Mosher honored for his lasting influence on countless students' lives. Since its establishment in the 1960s, Oakland Community College has grown to become the largest of Michigan's 28 community colleges and has been recognized as a "shining star for Oakland County" due to the success of its job programs.
Mosher's work focuses primarily on the practice areas of copyrights and trademarks. He brings more than 50 years of experience to his work at Brooks Kushman, as he spent the majority of his career prior to joining the firm at General Motors overseeing the automaker's trademarks. In addition to his vast and varied experience, Mosher is well known for the zeal and enthusiasm that he brings to trademark and copyright matters. He remains involved within the Oakland County community and is affectionately referred to as the Father of Oakland Community College.

Turner's background in Machine design and automation provides him with experience in various technologies and manufacturing processes. Turner has been named a "Rising Star" for Intellectual Property by Michigan Super Lawyers and is active in the firms mentoring program.
Turner graduated from Wayne State University Law School and GMI Engineering and Management Institute (now Kettering University). Turner is a registered patent attorney and a member of the bar for the State of Michigan and the Federal District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan.

Hurley focuses her practice on the professional liability and general liability defense litigation. Before joining the firm, she served as a judicial law clerk for United States District Court Judge Thomas L. Ludington, Eastern District of Michigan--Northern Division.
Hurley is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan,United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth District Court, and United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Hurley, who earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, is active in the State Bar of Michigan and Oakland County Bar Association.
Hurley earned her law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law.

Sarah F. Voutyras has joined Southfield-based Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC as an associate in the firm's litigation and intellectual property practice groups. Jaffe CEO Bill Sider made the announcement.
Working in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Voutyras interned with Judge Robert Cleland and developed a first-hand experience of the judicial system. She also interned for several summers at Brooks Kushman PC, where Voutyras corresponded with foreign associates overseeing trademark registration and renewal.
A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Voutyras also attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Voutyras earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in economics with a concentration in accounting and Russian.
