Mackinac Bridge commuter toll scheduled to rise in the new year

ST. IGNACE, Mich. (AP) -- Officials say it will cost some people more to drive across the Mackinac Bridge in the new year. The Mackinac Bridge Authority says the commuter toll rate will increase effective Jan. 1 to $2.10 per crossing, provided commuter card holders make their return trip within 36 hours of the first one. The expiration date for commuter cards was eliminated in July. All other toll rates for Mackinac Bridge traffic will remain the same. The new rate is among those that were approved in 2007 to help maintain the five-mile bridge connecting Michigan's Upper and Lower peninsulas. The 55-year-old Mackinac Bridge is maintained and operated exclusively with toll revenue. ---------------- Online: http://www.mackinacbridge.org. Published: Mon, Dec 31, 2012
