Monica Farris Linkner, 65, of West Bloomfield died on Monday, Dec. 31.
Linkner was an attorney in the field of Adoption Law since 1987. Since that time, she had been a Fellow of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, serving in leadership roles in several of the Academy's committees. She had also been a Fellow of the American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology, as well as being a member of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Section's Adoption Committee. She was also a member of Resolve, the national infertility association.
In the early 1990s, Linkner was closely involved in the process of adoption law reform, and was an observer/advisor to the Uniform Adoption Act Drafting Committee of the National Conference of Uniform State Laws from 1990-1994. She authored the chapter on Adoption for the 1997 treatise Michigan Family Law Practice and assisted in updating the adoption section of the Michigan Family Law Benchbook. She was also president of the Family Tree, an adoption and advocacy group.
In September 2006, Linkner was invited to Washington, D.C. by Senator Carl Levin and received the Angels in Adoption Award from the National Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Her expertise in family-building was recently recognized by DBusiness magazine, which listed her as a top lawyer in 2010.
She was an active congregant at Temple Shir Shalom and deeply enjoyed singing in the choir.
Linkner is survived by two sons, Josh Linkner and Matan Farris; her mother, Madelyn Farris; and a brother, Michael Farris; along with two grandchildren, Noah and Chloe Linkner.
