The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court – Eastern District of Michigan, and Access to Bankruptcy Court, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal representation to low income consumer debtors filing for bankruptcy, conducted “Getting Through It: Bankruptcy Basics” on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit.
Among those taking part were (left to right) Birmingham attorney Laura Lambert; John Zevalking, visiting professor at Cooley Law School; Leslie Berg, senior attorney at U.S. Department of Justice and Cooley Law School adjunct professor; and Iesha Evans, assistant director of the Center for Ethics, Service, and Professionalism at Cooley Law School.
“What (the Bankruptcy Basics seminars) do is present to pro se debtors – individuals filing on their own – basic information on bankruptcy and the process so that they’re better able to get through the bankruptcy proceeding and get to the discharge stage,” Lambert, a Cooley graduate, explained.
