Roundtable to examine 'The Law of the First Amendment'

Former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly will moderate an event at Wayne State University Law School honoring Distinguished Professor Robert Sedler's work on First Amendment law. The event, set from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, with a reception to follow, is free and open to the public. Two decades ago, Sedler wrote an article for the Washington & Lee Law Review about the differences in approach among academia and litigation on the Law of the First Amendment. Now he's written a new article looking at the topic again. "The Law of the First Amendment: A Revisit Twenty-one Years Later," will be published in the Wayne Law Review. Sedler, who's been teaching for 50 years, is an authority on Constitutional and First Amendment Law. To highlight his upcoming article, Wayne Law Review is presenting a scholars' roundtable featuring guest speakers who will discuss the concepts, principles and doctrines originally explored in Sedler's article and updated in his new work. Speakers will include U.S. District Court Judge Avern Cohn, Eastern District of Michigan; Professor Kevin Saunders, chair in Constitutional Law at Michigan State University College of Law; and Wayne Law Professor Christopher Lund whose principal academic interest is religious liberty. Each speaker will offer his own perspective to help frame the debate on the Law of the First Amendment. The event takes place in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at the Law School.
