Ex-Pontiac councilman enters plea in bribery case

PONTIAC (AP) -- A former Pontiac city councilman has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes. The U.S. Attorney's office says 61-year-old Everett Seay entered his plea Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. Authorities have said Seay accepted $25,000 from a man who needed city approval to open a money-handling business in Pontiac. The government says Seay was told the shop would be used to launder drug profits. The man who wanted to open a money-handling business actually was an undercover agent. The alleged crimes occurred in 2008 and 2009 when Seay was on the Pontiac council. Seay faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for June 26.
