New Agricultural Law Section starts strong
Nearly 50 attorneys from across the state traveled to Lansing to participate in the organizational meeting of the new State Bar of Michigan Agricultural Law Section. At the meeting, members voted to adopt bylaws and to elect the first officers and council members. The results of the election were as follows:
* Chairperson: Liza C. Moore.
* Chairperson-Elect: Kristiana M. Coutu.
* Secretary: Trent C. Hilding.
* Treasurer: Michael J. Fraleigh.
* Council members with a two-year term: Jeff G. Haarer, Todd W. Hoppe, and Laura E. Volkmann.
* Council members with a one-year term: Brion B. Doyle, John R. Dresser, and Allison L. Eicher.
The Agricultural Law Section was created in July 2012 and already more than 120 attorneys have joined. The section will aim to provide for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among attorneys with the end goal of improving the quality of legal services provided to the agricultural community.
"I am excited to see and hear the enthusiasm of attorneys seeking to collaborate and learn in order to better serve the agricultural industry here in Michigan," Moore said. "Please stay tuned for further updates on the new section as we work to develop useful programs for attorneys helping farmers and agribusinesses."
