The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section hosted its Sixth Annual Summit luncheon at Greektown Casino & Hotel in Detroit. At the Saturday, June 8, luncheon, YLS Chair Felicia Johnson (left), commission counsel for the Wayne County Commission, welcomed guest speaker Dennis Archer, former Michigan Supreme Court justice and former Detroit mayor, of Dennis W. Archer PLLC/Dickinson Wright PLLC.
“I’ve been asked to talk about professionalism and how to become a successful lawyer and I hope that with the experiences that I’ve had over my lifetime I might be able to provide thoughtful, helpful advice and recommendations,” Archer said.
“It’s always nice to see new lawyers who believe in the system and want to make a difference because there’d be no law without lawyers and despite the fact that some always have a thought that perhaps we’re over-lawyered – we’re not. We’ve got too many people in our country today that do not have adequate legal representation. Not everybody wants to go to the large law firms, people want to make a difference and try to help those who have perhaps helped them and maybe something occured in their family’s life or friend’s life that’s caused them to seek law as a vocation. But it’s a worthwhile, outstanding profession.”
