'Life of a Lawyer' discussed with students

As part of the annual Just the Beginning Foundation Summer Legal Institute, high school students from schools in and around the City of Detroit attended a lunch and roundtable discussion at the Detroit offices of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, & Stone PLC on Wednesday, June 19.  Saul Green (third from right), senior counsel with Miller Canfield, spoke on the topic of “The Life of a Lawyer” along with (left to right) Randal Brown of Plunkett Cooney, Michelle Crockett and Micheal Jackson of Miller Canfield, Valonne Givens, and Joe Vernon of Miller Canfield.

“Our mission today for Just the Beginning is to talk with the students about a day in the life of a lawyer,” Green noted.  “So we’re going to introduce a number of attorneys who are with Miller Canfield and Plunkett Cooney to talk about what they do and their lives as a lawyer.  Then we’re going to go through client counseling sessions with the students where it will actually be interactive and they’ll get a chance to do some client counseling role play today.”

The program is designed to provide high school students who aspire to become lawyers with an introduction to the rule of law and the legal profession. It is presented by the Chicago-based Just the Beginning Foundation (www.jtbf.org), in partnership with Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Oakland University, Walmart, the ABA Council of Legal Education Opportunity, and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
